Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is the heart and soul of Stanford Children’s Health. Nationally ranked and internationally recognized, our 311-bed hospital is devoted entirely to pediatrics and obstetrics. Our six centers of excellence provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas: brain & behavior, cancer, heart, pregnancy & newborn, pulmonary and transplant. We also provide an additional, wide range of services for babies, kids and pregnant moms.

Assists with the day-to-day management and coordination of Interpreter Services to accomplish quality results in an accurate, efficient, timely manner consistent with departmental goals. Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and reviewing the operations and staff of Interpreter Services. Acts for the Manager - Interpreter Service in the manager’s absence.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

• Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and reviewing the operations and staff of Interpreter Services.

• Designs and delivers or arranges for staff training and ensures that staff is compliant with HIPAA and hospital requirements.

• Manages work flows of information systems for continued process improvement; alerts technical support for any optimizations needed; reports changes for updates in policies; manages (VMI) video medical interpretation and (VRS) Video Relay Service) applications to ensure continuity of service to all hospital departments; serves as liaison with the Information Technology Department and vendors for system upgrades and when issues occur to ensure timely resolution.

• Participates in preparing and administering the budget for Interpreter Services; continuously monitors and verifies expenditures to ensure that they are within budgetary limits.

• Performs supervisory functions by interviewing, selecting and providing training for new staff; by approving or disapproving recommendations from subordinate staff on personnel actions; by evaluating subordinates' performance; by hearing and resolving employee grievances; and by determining the need for and initiating disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for the agency, program, division or institution.

• Represents Interpreter Services to other hospital departments, clinical areas, physicians, staff, Stanford University and external agencies; may serve on various committee and workgroups.

• Reviews staffing levels in conjunction with the introduction or extension of new technology and requests for service to determine best use of staff and advises top management accordingly.

• Schedules regular, relief and agency Interpreters to ensure adequate coverage, prioritizing staff assignments as needed based on last-minute requests or staffing shortages.

• Works on special projects and assists the Manager - Interpreter Services in such duties as may be assigned or delegated including recommendations regarding policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related experience

• Knowledge of cultural and perceptual factors that may affect patient treatment and communication Knowledge of interpreter services systems, procedures, policies and practices as well as interpreter ethical standards and interpreter competency standards.

• Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management.
