The Administrative Clinical Director, Bass Center reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and provides Operational and administrative leadership in planning, directing, and implementing the activities and operations associated with enterprise-wide Hematology, Oncology, Stem Cell Therapy Center of Excellence, including, but not limited to:


Following primary financial accountability for the clinical departments in the Center of Excellence; developing and monitoring budgets for all related cost centers the recruitment, mentorship and supervision of departmental leadership; directing department participation in hospital-wide initiatives and strategic planning; supervising development of departmental goals/strategic plan; and active participation in community, regional and/or national committees/organizations related to clinical service area process improvement activities to optimize patient progression and utilization of IP, Day Hospital/Infusion and OP services.

Leadership of a wide range of organization-wide transformation initiatives and special projects i.e. MIBG Program Development, Reshape care delivery to improve the patient experience, quality outcomes and expense of care across the continuum.

In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Directors of the Bass Center, responsible for the overall performance of the Bass Center including clinical care; customer service; financial performance including capital, operating budget and revenue management; quality and patient safety programs; legal and regulatory compliance, human resources and infrastructure. The Bass Center Administrative Clinical Director will also collaborate with the hospital and medical leadership in facilitating strong relationships to achieve overall coordination of patient care activities, strong financial performance, clinical and translational research efforts, and effect quality outcomes. He/she will foster a strong customer service focus and supports an effective team culture in the Bass Center. The Administrative Clinical Director will ensure promotion of an accountability based and multidisciplinary team work environment, leadership for key committee functions and collaboration with senior leadership, medical staff and referral centers to develop and promote cancer services and programs.

The span of control includes inpatient, infusion/day hospital and outpatient Bass Center departments and maintenance of the clinical workforce within LPCHS and in network of care locations

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Bass Center/leadership team in the development, execution, and communication of goals, action plans, and metrics consistent with the hospital's overall mission and strategic priorities.


  • Develops and maintains positive relationships among faculty, community and referring physicians through direct and indirect efforts. Leads a multi-disciplinary team and provides educational and leadership support to achieve specific outcomes. Leads the Center of Excellence through change process and assists team in dealing with the change process.


  • Develops appropriate financial reporting and control mechanisms for Bass Center. Responsible for the annual budgeting process for patient care finances. Monitors performance against budget, analyzes all variances and develops plans to address any variance.


  • Establishes operational direction consistent with hospital and health system objectives and is in compliance with regulatory guidelines


  • Interfaces with key internal management staff, including but not limited to, directors and managers of nursing, clinical support services, and ambulatory services, to effect positive operational changes, to service line growth, financial performance and customer satisfaction within service line.


  • Leads multifunctional teams in the planning design and implementation of care delivery models that meet strategic goals of the organization.


  • Participates with the administrative management team, medical staff and clinical leaders in conducting quality and process improvement activities, integrating clinical services across the inpatient and outpatient services. Works collaboratively with leadership to develop and maintain a Bass Center dashboard.


  • Remains current with trends and changes in practice both within discipline and in regard to the overall organization and health care environment.


  • Works with the Medical Directors, Directors, Vice President's, and other members of the management team to enhance performance of programs from an operational, process and quality improvement and service perspective.



Minimum Qualifications


Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.


  • Education: BSN required, Master's Degree in related filed (nursing, MHA, MBA) required.


  • Experience: Clinical experience in acute cancer care preferred. Six (6) years of progressive management experience in overseeing a large clinical/operational programs or related service line. Proven track record in improving and developing operations excellence in a clinical setting. Consistent progression into operational leadership positions.


  1. License/Certification: California Registered Nurse (RN - CA).


  1. License/Certification: Specialty Certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) -OR- Certified Nurse Manager from AONE (CENML) -OR- Certified in Executive Nursing Practice from AONE (CENP) within 6 months of hire.

  • Ability to form and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with members of the executive team, hospital staff, and others; problem solve in a proactive, creative manner, using sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge.


  • Ability to supervise effectively, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; control work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates' training needs and arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action; select and develop staff by using participatory management, personnel assessment, and performance review.


  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and to be accepted in a leadership role by a variety of constituents internal and external to the organization.


  • Knowledge of: the theory, principles, and practices of access/care coordination; principles and practices of management and supervision, including planning, organizing, directing, motivating, controlling, and decision-making; principles and practices of budgeting, as they relate to program management; principles and practices of employee relations; principles and practices of organizational behavior; principles and practices of financial management.


  • Skills: Leads through vision and exemplify strong strategic planning skills. Extensive experience facilitating and managing challenging situations, including conflict resolution and demonstration of outstanding interpersonal skills. Skills and background/experience in facilitating high-level multidisciplinary group decisions. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal required. Proven ability to build relationships among the heart center team and throughout the organization.
