The Manager-Adv Practice Professional Development (APPDM) is a registered nurse with a current, unencumbered license as an RN (or international equivalent), a graduate degree or higher with either the baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing (or international equivalent), and education or experience in adult learning who is responsible for overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of the residency/fellowship at Stanford Children's Health program. Creates and maintains a 12-month fellowship program for advanced practice providers (APPs) to complete as a transition to practice. The goal of the fellowship is to create high functioning APP's who needs to practice in a highly specialized subspecialty requiring a structured didactic and clinical program to support APP structure. Given the high acuity of our patient population and the highly specialized nature of the services we render at LPCH, we need APP's who have robust specialized training to function in complex pediatric subspecialty practices. The APPDM provides administrative and clinical practice leadership to and manages APP Fellows (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Certified Nurse Midwives) in select areas of Stanford Hospital and Clinics. In collaboration with the Director of Advanced Practice, the APPDM will participate in developing structured APP associated metrics for assessing outcomes of APP care and quality of care metrics; in ensuring that APPs meet various state and federal regulatory agency requirements, and ensure that APPs participate in cost-savings and revenue-generating practices. The APPDM will provide professional development, education, mentoring, precepting, and research opportunities for the APPs.

- Develops and maintains a 12-month program consisting of: didactic education, focused clinical experience, and professional mentoring, core and specialty rotations that meets the requirements for accreditation through a nationally recognized forum.
- Develops didactic curriculum and clinical experience including educational plan, evaluation tools, preceptor tools, preceptor and mentee selection, coordinates with hospital's current physician fellowship program. Develops schedule of clinical rotations, shadowing experiences, interdisciplinary meetings and appoint preceptors
- Develops annual business plan/ROI (productivity expectations, salary, benefits, overhead, FTEs). Evaluates the need for APP Fellows and makes recommendations for number of APP Fellows in each cohort.
- Performs the role of an APP Manager for a functional area(s).
- Collaborates with specialty departments to assess their needs, facilitates the interdisciplinary process through effective communication and meeting participation.
- Develops outcomes throughout the year and annually for the fellowship (clinical competence, productivity, increase in knowledge, staff turnover, fellow and program satisfaction, patient satisfaction)
- In collaboration with HR and recruitment, develops tools for marketing and advertising of fellowship, interview schedule, and selection of candidate (s).
- Ensures APP competencies and relevant medical ACGME competencies
- Develops curriculum for professional development for all APPs including but not limited to mentorship, research, advocacy, leadership, and innovation/technology
- Manages assigned staff and functions by assigning work, developing work procedures consistent with hospital policy, establishing work schedules and monitoring work performance performed by direct reports in order to meet agreed-upon goals, objectives, and target dates.
- Performs management functions by interviewing and hiring staff members; providing or arranging for training for direct reports; evaluating performance; and recommending or initiating personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, merit salary increases, or disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing as well as initiating or recommending responses to employee grievances.
- Develops, maintains and leads new hire APP onboarding by conducting generalized APP onboarding day, works with APP Managers to create a well-structured orientation.
- Develops and lead APP student placement and preceptor assignments.
- Establishes and maintain APP Academic partnerships.
- Provides continuing education opportunities for APPs.
- Develops and lead APP educational conference.
- Supports and maintains the APP Professional/Clinical Ladder.
- Develops and lead efforts to assess outcomes of APP care throughout SCH.
- Ensures that APPs meet or exceed various local, state, and federal regulatory agency requirements.
- Ensures that APPs throughout SCH have evidence-based practices that support cost-savings and revenue generating initiatives.
- Collaborates with the Director of Advanced Practice to create, support, or lead initiatives to improve the work environment of APPs throughout SCH.
- Supports the shared leadership model of shared governance and participate in Magnet activities.
- Performs clinical practice as needed to maintain APP license.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
- Education: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited university.
- Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a licensed advanced practice provider: (Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, and Certified Nurse Midwife) with experience in adult learning. Management experience preferred.
- Experience in or current or ability to acquire education in adult learning
(a): PA - Valid California license to practice as a Physician Assistant
- OR -
(a): RN - Valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse
-AND - one of the following advanced practice nursing licenses is qualifying:
(b) NP - Valid California license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner,
- OR -
(c) CNM - Valid California license to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife.
