Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is the heart and soul of Stanford Children’s Health. Nationally ranked and internationally recognized, our 311-bed hospital is devoted entirely to pediatrics and obstetrics. Our six centers of excellence provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas: brain & behavior, cancer, heart, pregnancy & newborn, pulmonary and transplant. We also provide an additional, wide range of services for babies, kids and pregnant moms.

 

Job Summary

Pre-doctoral interns are responsible for conducting psychological assessments and evaluations of children with suspected mental health concerns, typically as part of a multidisciplinary assessment process.   They are also responsible for working on multidisciplinary teams in the hospital setting to provide consultation- liaison services to children with medical illnesses who have behavioral or emotional difficulties. Interns also provide psychological therapy services to children and adolescents n the Eating Disorders unit. Interns are always supervised by a licensed professional (e.g., a psychologist or psychiatrist) and are responsible for following the policies, recommendations, and guidelines made by the licensed professionals who supervise them.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

•    Conduct comprehensive clinical interviews with parents and clients.

•    Conduct psychological assessments including use of standardized instruments with children and teens (0-18).

•    Synthesize/ disseminate information to team members.


•    Develop and deliver treatment plans for children and their families, which may include individual, dyadic and family therapy or behavior management.


•    Coordinate clinical care with other disciplines.


•    Attend clinical staff meetings and intern seminars.


•    Attend and participate in weekly supervision meetings with all assigned clinical supervisors.


•    Adhere to all legal and ethical mandates and guidelines in the execution of duties.


•    Meet productivity expectations as determined by internship training directors.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Enrolled in a doctoral program which is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA). Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a clinical programs although counseling and school psychology programs are acceptable. It is required that all applicants have completed all their formal course work and qualifying examinations, and have only the dissertation requirement to meet when commencing the internship year.


Experience: 1,500 clinical hours accrued as formal practica experience in outpatient and/or hospital settings.  


License/Certification: N/A

•        Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques


•        Ability to select, administer, and score various psychological assessments


•        Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations


•        Ability to provide individual and family psychotherapy


•        Ability to work in team environments
