The Patient Safety Advisor promotes directs, coordinates, and ensures that occurrence reporting systems and patient safety processes to promote a culture of safety, achieve compliance with standards, and reduce patient harm. This position manages the occurrence reporting system across the organization and works closely with departments and physicians to utilize the system fully. This position coordinates data management for reporting out at the unit level, department level and aggregate level for the organization. Develops data reporting requirements and works closely with the management team, clinical analytics, and physicians. Identifies areas needing improvement. The Patient Safety Advisor implements systems and processes to effectively collect event entries and collate data, ensuring comprehensive analysis for identifying trends issues and improvement and which are consistent with excellent quality outcomes and evidence based practices. Designs/enhances data management tools to provide effective and user-friendly systems for data tracking. This position is responsible for entering case reviews into the system for tracking and trending.

Coordinates Executive Safety Rounds (EWR) for the organization to familiarize hospital executives with concerns, threats to, and opportunities to improve patient safety and prepares prep reporting prior to the rounds.
Designs & develops reports, indicators, work lists and focus studies based on user needs & requests. Assists users & managers in obtaining meaningful information from the system.
Develops and implements processes to maintain the system and interfaces.
Enters EWR findings into quality database and prepares reports for quarterly presentations to BEST.
Evaluates new versions of reporting templates and coordinates implementation.
Facilitates and conducts training for occurrence reporting systems (upgrades or enhancements to the system, new users implemented and ongoing training for existing users).
Manages the Occurrence Reporting across the organization and ensures the integrity of data.
Routinely monitors all elements of the occurrence reporting software including system dictionaries, user securities, software updates, interface data transactions and reports.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Master's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
License/Certification: None Required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to collect and record data, evaluate data and statistics, and maintain effective reporting systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
Knowledge of statistical analysis and reporting practices pertaining to quality improvement and program evaluation.
