Job Summary

The Surgical technologist demonstrates behaviors in concert with LPCHS Mission, Values, Policies and Procedures.  The Surgical technologist acts as a member of the surgical team providing patient care to the patients undergoing surgical procedures in a variety of areas by assisting the surgeon with instrumentation.  The Surgical technologist prepares the appropriate instrumentation and materials for use during and on the surgical field, passing instruments.  Assists with standard work and room turnover. Performs other scrub duties as directed. 

Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist I and II plus additional duties.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

•    Acts as a preceptor and leader to individuals and team.

•    Ensures preference card accuracy in collaboration with Surgeon, Service Lead, and Circulating Nurses.

•    Collaborates on the development and provision of competency based orientation for scrub role for all services.

•    Participates in meetings and serves as a contributing member on two (2) unit-based committees.

•    In conjunction with other team members, develops and leads one or more process improvement(s) per year

•    In conjunction with other team members, provides two (2) in-services/year

•    Serves as a liaison to hospital vendors and communicates all issues with Service Lead/ANM

•    Acts as a subject matter expert in at least one primary service and a resource in two or more other services.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Completion of an accredited program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or formal structure surgical program, (e.g., military services)

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience 

Licensure/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.


CST - Certified Surgical Technologist.
